Zelda Games From $25 to $75
Five games across the whole series. Two are Switch 2 only, so check their console first.
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (Switch 2)
About $60–70 (out Nov. 5) · Best for: any Switch 2 owner, from first-timers to 1998 veterans.
The 40th-anniversary headliner: Ocarina of Time rebuilt for Switch 2 with voiced cutscenes, expanded dialogue and orchestral music. You can even play the ocarina by humming into the microphone. Early physical copies get a textured foil cover while supplies last.
Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment (Switch 2)
About $60–70 · Best for: action fans who want to fight whole armies, alone or with a friend.
A hack-and-slash spin-off set during the Imprisoning War from Tears of the Kingdom’s backstory, with two-player local co-op. It’s Switch 2 only.
The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom
About $40–60 · Best for: puzzle lovers, and anyone who wanted to play as Zelda.
Zelda is the hero here, solving puzzles by copying objects and monsters. It runs on the original Switch and on Switch 2, so it’s the safe pick when you don’t know their console.
The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening
About $40–60 · Best for: younger players and cozy gamers who want a shorter, gentler Zelda.
The 2019 Switch remake of the Game Boy classic, with a toy-like look. It’s a compact adventure, great as a first Zelda, and it plays on both Switch and Switch 2.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition
About $70 · Best for: new Switch 2 owners who never played the modern Zeldas.
The open-world game that reset the series, in its Switch 2 Edition. If they already own the Switch version and have Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack, the upgrade is free, so this is for people starting fresh.
Which Zelda game should you pick?
They own a Switch 2: Ocarina of Time is the gift of the year. If they already preordered it, Age of Imprisonment is the co-op pick. They own an original Switch: Echoes of Wisdom or Link’s Awakening. Both are often on sale well under list.
Breath of the Wild’s Switch 2 Edition only makes sense for someone who hasn’t played it. Current owners with the Expansion Pack upgrade for free.
Zelda Collectibles and Books From $25 to $75
An amiibo, the essential lore book and a chess set the whole family can play.
amiibo: Mineru’s Construct
About $35 · Best for: Tears of the Kingdom players and amiibo collectors.
The long-awaited Tears of the Kingdom amiibo launched Sept. 17. It unlocks a special paraglider fabric in Tears of the Kingdom and also works with Breath of the Wild and Age of Imprisonment. Preorders sold out at many stores, so pay close to $35 or wait for a restock.
The Legend of Zelda: Hyrule Historia
About $25–40 · Best for: lore fans who argue about the timeline.
The book that made the official Zelda timeline public: 276 pages of history, concept art and chronology, with an intro by Shigeru Miyamoto and a bonus comic by Akira Himekawa.
The Legend of Zelda Chess Set
About $45 · Best for: families and friends who want Zelda on the table, not the TV.
Link, Zelda, Impa, Epona and Navi pawns take on Ganondorf, Twinrova, Iron Knuckles and Deku Scrubs across 32 custom-sculpted pieces. For ages 8 and up.
Zelda Switch 2 Gear From $25 to $75
Two ways to carry a Switch 2 in style: Nintendo’s official anniversary case, or PowerA’s more grown-up bag.
Switch 2 Carrying Case & Screen Protector, Zelda 40th Anniversary Edition
About $40 (out Oct. 29) · Best for: Switch 2 owners who play on the go.
Nintendo’s own anniversary case, with a screen protector in the box. It launches Oct. 29 alongside the Zelda Switch 2 and Pro Controller.
PowerA East West Bag for Switch 2, Hyrule Crest
About $45 (out Sept. 30) · Best for: grown-up fans who want a bag they’d carry anyway.
Half handbag, half Switch case: a padded console compartment, two interior pockets, handles and a removable shoulder strap. The crest and Zonai-style markings are embossed, not printed, so it reads subtle.
Handmade Zelda-Style Gifts From $25 to $75
Two Etsy makers, original designs, no Nintendo art. One plays the songs; one gives you the ears.
Handmade 6-Hole Pendant Ceramic Ocarina (Alto C)
About $49 · Best for: fans who want to try real ocarina songs before the remake.
A small hand-painted ocarina that plays 10 notes, with a fingering chart and a basic songs guide. It’s the same Miami shop as the 12-hole ocarina in our over-$75 guide, and it had only a couple left.
Handmade Elf Ear Cuffs (pair)
About $28, plus shipping · Best for: cosplayers and anyone who has always wanted Hylian ears.
A bendable wire pair that shapes to any ear, in black, silver, copper or with pearls. It ships from the Netherlands and takes about 10–15 days, so order by late November.
Before You Buy
- Switch or Switch 2? Ocarina of Time, Age of Imprisonment and the Breath of the Wild Switch 2 Edition need a Switch 2. Echoes of Wisdom, Link’s Awakening and the amiibo also work on the original Switch.
- Mind the release dates. The PowerA bag lands Sept. 30, the anniversary case Oct. 29 and Ocarina of Time Nov. 5. Preorders are a normal gift: print the confirmation and wrap it.
- Nintendo’s store adds a bonus. Preorders of Ocarina of Time at Nintendo’s own store include 3D replicas of the three Spiritual Stones. Amazon had the game $10 off when I checked, so choose the discount or the bonus.
- Don’t wait for these. The Young Link and Young Zelda amiibo arrive in 2027, and Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity – Definitive Edition for Switch 2 arrives Feb. 25, 2027. Neither makes it under the tree.
- Handmade takes time. The ear cuffs ship from Europe. Order Etsy gifts by late November and check each listing’s delivery estimate.
Cora’s Top Three
Top pick: Ocarina of Time for Switch 2
It’s the anniversary game, rebuilt with voices and an orchestra, and it’s the story many fans call the best Zelda. The catch: Switch 2 only, and it arrives Nov. 5. A preorder under the tree is still a great gift.
Best for any Switch: Echoes of Wisdom
It’s the newest mainline Zelda, it stars Zelda herself, and it runs on every Switch. It’s often discounted, too.
Best non-game gift: Hyrule Historia
Every Zelda fan with a theory about the timeline should own the book that settled it. It’s a big, handsome hardcover that stays on the coffee table.
