Best Switch 2 Couch Co-Op Games for Two or More Players
These are 10 Nintendo Switch 2 games you can play with someone on the same couch, based on the player counts on Nintendo’s own product pages. Nine are Switch 2 versions or Switch 2 Editions; one, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, is a Switch game that Nintendo upgraded for Switch 2 on September 2, 2026.
My short answer: Mario Kart World for a crowd, Super Mario Party Jamboree for a party, and Donkey Kong Bananza or Kirby and the Forgotten Land if it is just two of you.
The Scroll in Brief
- Every game here lists same-system multiplayer on Nintendo’s pages. Counts range from 2 players (Kirby, Donkey Kong Bananza) to 4 (most of the rest), and up to 8 for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe after its September 2026 Switch 2 update.
- Controllers are the hidden cost: Nintendo’s pages say multiplayer needs one compatible controller per player, and extra controllers may be sold separately.
- GameShare lets a friend with their own Switch or Switch 2 join one copy of several of these games, including Donkey Kong Bananza, Super Mario Bros. Wonder, Overcooked! 2 and Stardew Valley.
- I list no prices because the Nintendo pages I could read did not show them, so check the eShop for the current price.
- Release dates and player counts come from Nintendo’s UK pages, read October 2026.
How I picked these
I picked games that Nintendo lists for Switch 2 (as a Switch 2 game, a Switch 2 Edition, or a Switch game with a Switch 2 update) and that show a same-system player count of two or more. I read each Nintendo product page for the player count and release date. I have not played any of them myself, so the takes below come from those pages and published coverage.
One note on terms: Single System on a Nintendo page means players share one console and one screen. Local Wireless means several consoles in the same room, each with its own screen.
Racing and Party Games
Mario Kart World
Switch 2 game · Released June 5, 2025 · 1-4 players on one console, 2-8 local wireless, 2-24 online
Nintendo’s page says up to four players can race on the same console, and you can pass a single Joy-Con 2 between friends. It is a launch game for Switch 2, with modes including Grand Prix, Knockout Tour and Free Roam. It is the obvious first buy for a Switch 2 living room.
Best for: families and groups who want one game for every visit.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
Switch game with a Switch 2 update · Released April 28, 2017 · Up to 4 split-screen, up to 8 after the update
Nintendo says a free update on September 2, 2026 adds eight-player local split-screen on Switch 2, with enough controllers, plus CameraPlay and sharper visuals. The original Switch page lists 48 courses and a Battle mode. If you already own it, you may not need Mario Kart World for a big group.
Best for: owners of the Switch game who want eight players on one screen.
Super Mario Party Jamboree – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV
Switch 2 Edition · Released July 24, 2025 · Up to 4 players
The Switch 2 Edition bundles the base game with Jamboree TV, which adds motion, voice and mouse-style controls and 20 new minigames. Nintendo lists up to four players locally for several modes. GameShare supports up to four players for one board, but in handheld mode only.
Best for: game nights where nobody wants to read rules.
Kirby Air Riders
Switch 2 game · Released November 20, 2025 · Up to 4 players locally in City Trial
A fast vehicle-combat game with three multiplayer modes: City Trial, Air Ride and Top Ride. Nintendo’s page gives the local limits for City Trial only: up to four on one system, up to eight over local wireless and sixteen online. Riders include Kirby, King Dedede and Meta Knight.
Best for: groups who want chaos instead of a clean race.
Mario Tennis Fever
Switch 2 game · Released February 12, 2026 · 1-4 players on one system
A tennis game with Fever Rackets that change a match, and modes including Adventure, Tournament and Free Play. Single-system play covers one to four players, so doubles on one couch works. It is a quick pick-up game for anyone who has used a Joy-Con.
Best for: short matches between two or four.
Platformers and Adventures
Super Mario Bros. Wonder – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Meetup in Bellabel Park
Switch 2 Edition · Released March 26, 2026 · Up to 4 players on one console
Nintendo’s page lists up to four players on one console in the Local Multiplayer Plaza and Toad Brigade Training Camp. GameShare lets one copy cover four people in total. The edition adds a Co-Star Luma and an Assist Mode that prevents damage and falling into pits, which helps mixed-skill groups.
Best for: families with different skill levels.
Donkey Kong Bananza
Switch 2 game · Released July 17, 2025 · 1-2 players on one system
A second player shares a Joy-Con 2 and joins as Pauline, using mouse controls for vocal blasts that help DK. GameShare also lets a friend join from their own console, locally or online. Wikipedia notes some critics found the co-op mode thin, so treat it as a helper role for a newer player.
Best for: a gamer and a non-gamer sharing a couch.
Kirby and the Forgotten Land – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Star-Crossed World
Switch 2 Edition · Released August 28, 2025 · 1-2 players on one system
Nintendo lists one to two players on a single system. The edition adds the Star-Crossed World story and better graphics and frame rate. It is a 3D platformer with a gentle pace, which suits a pair with uneven experience.
Best for: couples or parent and child playing together.
Teamwork and Chaos
Overcooked! 2 – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition

Switch 2 Edition · Released November 6, 2025 · 1-4 players on one system, 2-4 online
A cooperative cooking game across kitchens like sushi restaurants, magic schools and alien planets. The Switch 2 edition adds 4K at 60 FPS, CameraPlay, GameShare and an exclusive chef. Expect loud communication and burnt orders.
Best for: groups that want to work together, or fail together.
Stardew Valley – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition

Switch 2 Edition · Released March 6, 2026 · 1-4 players on one system, up to 8 online
The Switch 2 Edition adds local split-screen co-op for up to four players, online play for up to eight, mouse controls and GameShare. Nintendo says multiplayer lets players share resources and build relationships. It is a slow, cozy co-op pick rather than a party game.
Best for: couples who want a long-term shared farm.

Before You Buy
Count your controllers first. Nintendo’s pages say multiplayer needs one compatible controller per player, and extra controllers may be sold separately. A group of four can mean buying more Joy-Con or Pro Controllers.
If you own the original Switch version of a game, look for an upgrade pack on the eShop rather than buying the full Switch 2 Edition. Also remember that GameShare lets a friend join one copy, but some modes limit it: for Super Mario Party Jamboree, Nintendo says the GameShare board works in handheld mode only.
Gary’s Take
For one game, Mario Kart World. For a smaller budget and a lot of players, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe if you already have it, since Nintendo says the update gives you eight on one screen. For a pair, Kirby and the Forgotten Land or Donkey Kong Bananza are the easy picks.
Nintendo’s own games tend to hold their price, so the real savings are in GameShare, the upgrade packs and skipping controllers you will not use. Bundle a second game only when you have the players for it.
Keep digging: check the eShop for current prices, and see each Nintendo page for player counts before you plan a night.
