Froggin' Around, the two-player co-op frog puzzle game with a free Steam demo

Froggin’ Around: A Two-Frog Co-op Puzzle Game With a Free Demo

Froggin’ Around is a two-player co-op puzzle game where you and a partner play two mischievous frogs on a magical quest, swinging and grabbing things with stretchy tongues. It’s PC-only on Steam, the full game has no release date yet, and there’s a free demo you can play right now.

It started as a student prototype that won Best Prototype and the Audience Award at Ubisoft’s 2025 Game Lab Competition in Montreal. A free demo with a trophy shelf behind it? That’s my kind of price. Here’s what it is, how it plays and who should grab a Player 2.

The Scroll in Brief

  • What: a light-hearted, physics-based co-op adventure starring two frogs with stretchy, bouncy tongues.
  • How you play: two players only, side by side on one PC. Online co-op is promised for the full version.
  • Try it free: the Steam demo (out since November 2025) covers the first chapter, a wizard’s workshop, in about 15 minutes.
  • Gary’s call: play the free demo tonight with your co-op partner, then wishlist it if you both laughed.

Coming soon · No price yet. The Steam page lists the release as “To be announced.”

Best for: couples, siblings and best friends who share a couch and like silly physics puzzles more than tough platforming.

Froggin’ Around began as a 10-week project for the 2025 Ubisoft Game Lab Competition, where 206 students built prototypes around the theme “Action/Reaction.” The frog team, programmers from the École de technologie supérieure (ÉTS) working with art and design students from UQAT’s Montréal campus, took home the top prize, Best Prototype, plus the Audience Award.

The team kept going after the contest. They formed Froggin’ Around Productions, put the game on Steam, and released a free demo in November 2025.

Each of you controls a frog, and your main tool is your tongue. The developers describe stretchy, bouncy tongues you use to swing, grab objects and help each other hop through puzzles and “chaotic challenges.” There’s also a dedicated croak button, because of course there is.

The Steam page promises crawling, tongue-stretching and croaking your way through fantasy locations that include a wizard’s workshop and glowing sewers. It’s tagged as a 3D puzzle platformer, and the team calls it light-hearted and physics-based, so expect wobbly, funny moments more than precision jumps.

A gamepad is recommended, with full controller support (including DualShock and DualSense). On keyboard, the demo’s itch.io page lists WASD or the arrow keys to move, J or Z for the tongue, K or X to croak and Space to jump.

Why It’s Built for Duos

This isn’t a single-player game with co-op bolted on. The team calls it a “co-op only experience” for exactly two players, and the puzzles are built around both frogs working together.

Right now that means sitting side by side: the demo is local co-op on one screen. If your Player 2 lives across town, Steam lists Remote Play Together, which lets a friend join over the internet without owning the game. On the Steam forums the developers also confirmed that the full version will have online co-op.

That puts it right next to our other Duos Co-op picks like Stage Fright: games that only work with a partner.

Gary’s Take

I haven’t played it, and there’s no price to judge yet. But here’s the math I like: a free demo, about 15 minutes long, from a team whose prototype took the top prize at a Ubisoft-run student competition. You risk nothing but a quarter hour. Grab your co-op partner, play the demo, and if you’re both laughing by the end of the wizard’s workshop, hit wishlist. I’ll flag it on the Quest Board when a date, a price or a launch discount shows up.
