Stage Fright, the 2-player co-op game from the makers of Overcooked, coming 2027 to Switch 2, Switch and PC

Stage Fright: The Overcooked Team’s Co-op Escape Room for Two

Stage Fright is the next game from Ghost Town Games, the small studio that made Overcooked. It’s a spooky escape-room adventure built for exactly two players, online or side by side on the couch, and it’s coming to Switch 2, Switch and PC in 2027.

There’s no price and no deal yet, so there’s nothing for me to haggle over. But if you have a regular co-op partner, this is one to wishlist now. Here’s what we know so far, straight from the developers.

Coming 2027 · No price yet. The Steam page lists it as “To be announced.”

Stage Fright was first revealed at The Game Awards in December 2024. Ghost Town Games built it over about five years, with the studio’s three founders at the center of a small team. Hello Games, the studio behind No Man’s Sky, is publishing it. The two studios go way back: Hello Games helped Overcooked find its original publisher, and it says testing Stage Fright gave it the same buzz Overcooked did.

Hello Games’ own pitch for the vibe is “Luigi’s Mansion meets Overcooked”: a spooky, whimsical world that stays friendly enough for players who don’t usually play puzzle games.

You and your partner explore, solve escape rooms, get past tricky obstacles and slowly unravel an old mystery. The developers describe it as Overcooked-style chaotic moments mixed with escape-room teamwork.

The big twist is that the two of you don’t always see or reach the same things. In an interview with Nintendo Life, co-founders Oli De-Vine and Phil Duncan explained that each player often has information or access the other doesn’t, so you have to talk it out. The studio’s own site sums it up: “The challenge is in the mind, not the finger-tips!” That makes it a good pick for pairing a regular gamer with someone who rarely plays.

The Story: Drew, Blake and Charlie

You guide three kids, Drew, Blake and Charlie, through a coming-of-age story in a mysterious town. There are three kids but only two players, so the game switches which pair you’re controlling as the story unfolds, letting you see events from two different sides. The Nintendo Direct pitch framed it as a duo facing a gauntlet of magic traps and puzzles to save their friend.

The developers told Nintendo Life the story is fully voice-acted with a comedic, whimsical tone. Luigi’s Mansion was a touchstone for keeping it spooky without being scary.

Why It’s Built for Duos

Overcooked was a party game for up to four players. Stage Fright is deliberately just two. The team told Nintendo Life that keeping it to a pair stops one person from taking over and solving everything alone. They also called it more of an evening game than a party game, meant to be played over several sessions across roughly a week of casual play.

That puts it in the same corner as other two-player-only co-op games, which is why it’s the first entry in our new Duos Co-op collection.

Gary’s Take

I can’t tell you if it’s worth the money, because nobody knows the price yet, and I haven’t played it. What I can tell you is that the team behind one of the best couch co-op series ever is making a game built only for two, with puzzles that reward talking over twitch reflexes. That’s rare. Wishlist it on Steam, and I’ll flag it on the Quest Board the moment a date, a price or a launch discount shows up.
