This is a 2026 holiday gift guide for Dungeons & Dragons and tabletop players: 14 real, currently sold gifts grouped by price, from a $9 kids’ monster guide to a handmade wooden DM screen. The short answer: for a group that has never played, get the Heroes of the Borderlands Starter Set, and for a seasoned player, get Arcana Unleashed or the new D&D: World of Warcraft book (out Nov. 17).

I’ve mixed official Wizards of the Coast books with board games, paint kits and four handmade Etsy pieces: dice, a dice bag, a dice tower and a DM screen. Every Etsy shop here makes its own designs, not copies of official D&D art. Prices below are ranges, and they change.

The Scroll in Brief

  • Cora’s top pick: the D&D Starter Set: Heroes of the Borderlands (about $40–50), the biggest, most complete way to start a new group.
  • Best cheap pick: a handmade resin dice set from Reastudio (about $20 and up). Every player wants more dice.
  • Best splurge: HeroQuest (about $135), a full dungeon crawl with 70+ miniatures that works as a family game night.
  • New this season: Arcana Unleashed came out in September, and D&D: World of Warcraft arrives Nov. 17.
  • Two of the Etsy makers ship from overseas, so order handmade gifts by early December.

Cora’s note: Questers are Hasbro’s new build-and-roll D&D toys. The dragon comes in an egg capsule with 10–12 snap-together pieces, a real d20 and a quest card, so a little kid gets a toy and a first taste of the game. Reastudio’s dice are hand-poured and ship from Shenzhen, China, so order early.

Which book should you pick?

Heroes of the Borderlands is the one for beginners. It’s a big box with three adventure booklets, eight class boards, nine double-sided poster maps, 11 dice, 210 cards and 273 tokens, built for 2–6 players ages 14+. It costs more than the old starter set, but it’s far more complete.

Arcana Unleashed is for players who already have the core books: eight new subclasses, 30+ spells, 25+ feats and magic items that grow in power as characters level up. A companion adventure, Deadfall (about $30), runs levels 11–20. D&D: World of Warcraft adds rules for all 13 WoW classes and 16 species, plus dungeons and bosses from the game.

D&D Gifts Over $75

Big gifts for the DM who carries the whole group, or the family that wants a dungeon crawl on the kitchen table.

Customizable Handmade Solid Wood DM Screen

About $195 and up · The DM who runs a game every week.

HeroQuest comes with 70+ miniatures, a game board, dungeon doors and furniture, and 14 quests for 2–5 players ages 14+. One player runs the monsters and the rest play heroes, so it’s a gentle bridge from board games to D&D. The Froghemoth is a prepainted, nearly 8-inch Gargantuan mini on a 100mm base. At Target it’s sold by a marketplace seller, so check the price before you buy.

Both wood pieces are made to order by small workshops, GreenFoxWoodworking in Wisconsin and NerdWoodDesigns in Oregon. Stock is small, so check the listing and ask the maker about holiday timing.

Before You Buy

  • Ask what they already own. Most players have a Player’s Handbook. Supplements like Arcana Unleashed or the World of Warcraft book are safer bets for experienced players than a second copy of a core book.
  • Physical, digital or both? D&D Beyond sells digital and physical-plus-digital bundles. If they play online, a bundle may be worth the extra cost.
  • Mind the release date. D&D: World of Warcraft arrives Nov. 17. Preorder or give a printed “IOU” card.
  • Handmade takes time. MysteryLoft ships from Ukraine and Reastudio from China. Order by early December and check each listing’s delivery estimate.
  • Skip Etsy listings with official art. Shops that print D&D logos or book art usually don’t hold the license. Pick original designs, like the ones here.

Cora’s Top Three

Top pick: Heroes of the Borderlands Starter Set

The hardest part of D&D is the first session. This box gives a new group maps, tokens, cards and adventures, so nobody has to buy three rulebooks first. It’s the rare gift that turns into a weekly hangout.

Best cheap pick: Reastudio’s handmade resin dice

Players never have enough dice, and a handmade set feels personal for about $20. Order early, since they ship from overseas. Runner-up for kids: the Questers Black Dragon.

Best splurge: HeroQuest

It’s a whole fantasy adventure in one box, with a pile of miniatures and a game master role that doesn’t need years of rules. It works for families, lapsed ’90s fans and D&D groups on a night off. For a dedicated DM, NerdWoodDesigns’ wood screen is the heirloom pick.
