The Scroll in Brief

  • Cora’s top pick: Pokémon Pokopia (about $70), a cozy town-builder with a Metacritic score of 89. It runs only on Switch 2.
  • Best LEGO for kids: Training House with Pikachu ($69.99), the cheapest LEGO Pokémon set that includes a SMART Brick.
  • Best LEGO for grown-ups: Eevee ($59.99) or Munchlax ($69.99), both 18+ display builds.
  • For card collectors: the Delta Reign Elite Trainer Box lists at $49.99 and arrives Nov. 6. Don’t pay scalper prices.
  • For readers: the hardcover Pokémon Adventures Deluxe Edition, Vol. 1 ($29.99) lands Nov. 10.

Pokémon Video Games

Two very different Pokémon games make great main gifts this year. Check which console they own first: one of these is Switch 2 only.

About $55–70 · Action-RPG fans with a Switch 2.

Which game should you pick?

Pokopia (March 5, 2026) has you play as a Ditto shaped like a human, building a town with Pokémon, so think Animal Crossing meets Minecraft. At time of posting it scores 89 on Metacritic and 89 on OpenCritic ("Mighty"). It has barely been discounted since launch (list price $69.99, per Deku Deals), so don’t wait for a deal. The physical version is a Game-Key Card, which means the game downloads from the internet.

Legends: Z-A (October 2025) is the action pick, with real-time battles in Lumiose City and the return of Mega Evolution. At time of posting it has a 79 Top Critic Average on OpenCritic, with 65% of critics recommending it. The Switch 2 Edition lists at $69.99, and the physical copy has dropped as low as about $35, per Deku Deals, so watch for sales. There’s also a cheaper original-Switch version, so match the box to their console.

LEGO Pokémon Sets for Kids

LEGO’s kid-focused Pokémon sets launched Aug. 1, 2026 with SMART Play: bricks that light up, make sounds and react as kids feed, train and battle their Pokémon. Start with a set that includes the brick.

About $70 · Older kids (10+) who like a bigger, moodier build.

Cora’s note: Training House with Pikachu is an "All-in-One" set: 400 pieces plus a SMART Brick, four SMART Tags and a charger, so it works out of the box. The other three are "compatible" sets. They build and play fine alone, but they only light up with a brick from an All-in-One set. Pair any of them with Training House and you have a starter kit.

By the numbers: Trainer’s Buggy is 320 pieces with two tags, Drone Search is 429 pieces with three tags, and Mewtwo’s Lab Break is 605 pieces with one tag. Want the biggest battle set? Charizard vs. Jolteon is on our over $75 list.

LEGO Pokémon Display Builds for Grown-Ups

These are 18+ sets made to be built slowly and displayed for years. They’re the right LEGO for teens, college students and adult fans.

LEGO Pokémon Eevee (72151)

About $60 · Adult fans who want a desk display.

LEGO Pokémon Munchlax (72150)

About $70 · Snorlax fans and anyone who relates to eating snacks.

Eevee is 587 pieces and was one of the first three LEGO Pokémon sets in February 2026. Munchlax (757 pieces, August 2026) is a posable figure with a tree stump and snack accessories. Both look great on a shelf next to each other, and both cost less than a new game.

Pokémon Cards, Manga and Cookbooks

For collectors and readers. Two of these are new this fall, so preorder if you want them under the tree.

About $28 at list price, often less · Kids who like to cook with a grown-up, and foodie fans.

The Delta Reign Elite Trainer Box lists at $49.99, and preorders on Amazon open closer to the Nov. 6 release. The Deluxe manga is a 476-page hardcover at a bigger 6¼ × 9 inch size, so Mato’s art has room to breathe. My Pokémon Cookbook is a 128-page hardcover of recipes inspired by Pikachu and friends, and it lists at $27.99.

Before You Buy

  • Switch or Switch 2? Pokopia runs only on Switch 2. Legends: Z-A comes in separate Switch and Switch 2 Edition versions, so check which console they own.
  • SMART Play needs a brick. Only Training House with Pikachu and Charizard vs. Jolteon include a SMART Brick. The other kids’ sets are "compatible" and need one to light up.
  • Check LEGO ages. Eevee and Munchlax are 18+ display builds. The SMART Play sets are made for kids 6 to 10+.
  • Don’t pay scalper prices for cards. The Delta Reign ETB lists at $49.99. If a listing is far above that, wait; prices usually settle after launch.
  • Mind the dates. Delta Reign arrives Nov. 6 and the Deluxe manga Nov. 10.

Cora’s Top Three

Top pick: Pokémon Pokopia

It’s the best-reviewed Pokémon game on Metacritic, and it works for cozy players who never cared about battling. One gift can land with a kid, a parent and a lapsed fan. The catch: it’s Switch 2 only.

Best LEGO for kids: Training House with Pikachu

It’s the cheapest way into LEGO Pokémon’s interactive side, because the SMART Brick is in the box. Every smaller set you add later lights up too, so it’s a gift that keeps growing.

Best for grown-ups: LEGO Pokémon Eevee

A calm, satisfying build that ends up on a desk for years. Pair it with Munchlax if you want to spoil someone.
