Today’s Loot: 4 Steam Deals Worth Your Gold
Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun — Steam
$3.99 on Steam, 90% off its $39.99 price. The Steam page does not list an end date, so treat the price as short-term.
Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun is Mimimi Games’ real-time tactics stealth game set in Edo-period Japan, where a new Shogun recruits five specialists and you sneak them through guarded maps, chaining their abilities together.
Best for: Patient planners who like stealth puzzles, quick-save experiments and the feeling of a perfectly timed takedown.
Gary’s take: Buy. CheapShark’s lowest recorded price is $1.99 from February 1, 2022, so $3.99 misses the floor by $2.00, but that is still a tiny price for a game that lists at $39.99. It is Very Positive on Steam (94% of about 9,100 reviews at time of posting) with an 85 on Metacritic. I did not verify a current G2A price, so that button is for comparison only (it opens a G2A search; check the seller rating and key region).
XCOM 2 — Steam
$2.99 on Steam, 85% off its $19.99 price. The Steam page does not list an end date, so treat the price as short-term.
XCOM 2 is Firaxis’ turn-based tactics sequel, set in a future where aliens rule Earth and you rebuild XCOM to spark a global resistance, managing a squad in battle and a base between missions.
Best for: Strategy fans who enjoy tense turn-based fights, squad management and the occasional heartbreaking missed shot.
Gary’s take: Buy. CheapShark’s lowest recorded price is $1.98 from April 8, 2023, so $2.99 misses the floor by $1.01, which is not worth waiting for. It is Very Positive on Steam (85% of about 45,400 reviews at time of posting) with an 88 on Metacritic. I did not verify a current G2A price, so that button is for comparison only (it opens a G2A search; check the seller rating and key region).
Amnesia: The Dark Descent — Steam
$3.99 on Steam, 80% off its $19.99 price. The Steam page does not list an end date, so treat the price as short-term.
Amnesia: The Dark Descent is Frictional Games’ first-person survival horror classic, in which you explore a dark castle with no weapons, hiding from monsters and managing your sanity.
Best for: Horror fans who want a slow-burn scare for Halloween week and do not mind playing with the lights on.
Gary’s take: Buy if you want it for Halloween. CheapShark’s lowest recorded price is $0.99 from January 6, 2025, so $3.99 misses the floor by $3.00; if you are not in a hurry, waiting for another dip is reasonable. It is Overwhelmingly Positive on Steam (95% of about 12,950 reviews at time of posting) with an 85 on Metacritic. I did not verify a current G2A price, so that button is for comparison only (it opens a G2A search; check the seller rating and key region).
Undertale — Steam
$2.49 on Steam, 75% off its $9.99 price. The Steam page does not list an end date, so treat the price as short-term.
Undertale is tobyfox’s cult-favorite RPG where you do not have to destroy anyone: every fight can be spared, talked through or dodged in a bullet-hell mini-game.
Best for: Story and music lovers who want a short, funny, surprisingly emotional RPG that breaks the usual rules.
Gary’s take: Buy. CheapShark’s lowest recorded price is $0.99 from March 13, 2025, so $2.49 misses the floor by $1.50, which is small money for a game this loved. It is Overwhelmingly Positive on Steam (96% of about 155,300 reviews at time of posting) with a 92 on Metacritic. I did not verify a current G2A price, so that button is for comparison only (it opens a G2A search; check the seller rating and key region).
Free on Epic Until Thursday, October 29
Epic’s current free pair, Sker Ritual and Home – A Unique Horror Adventure, stays free to claim until Thursday, October 29 at 11 a.m. ET, and the games are yours for good once claimed. Claim them on the Epic free games page.
Sker Ritual — Epic Games Store
Free to keep on the Epic Games Store until October 29 at 11 a.m. ET (it normally sells for $24.99).
Sker Ritual is a co-op horror horde shooter from Wales Interactive and a spin-off of Maid of Sker. You can play solo or with up to four players against waves of enemies called the Quiet Ones.
Best for: Co-op players who want a spooky shooter to play with friends this Halloween week.
Gary’s take: Claim it before 11 a.m. next Thursday. Free is the lowest price a game can have, so this giveaway matches the floor, and a $24.99 co-op game for nothing is an easy add. I have not checked its Steam reviews yet, so I am not quoting a score.
Home – A Unique Horror Adventure — Epic Games Store
Free to keep on the Epic Games Store until October 29 at 11 a.m. ET (it normally sells for $4.99).
Home – A Unique Horror Adventure is a pixel-art murder mystery from BancyCo where your choices shape how the story ends.
Best for: Mystery fans who like short, atmospheric stories with more than one ending.
Gary’s take: Claim it. Free matches the floor, and a small choice-driven mystery is worth a spot in your library. I have not checked its Steam reviews yet, so I am not quoting a score.
Humble Bundle Loot
Per our Humble roundup, the Capcom Classics Bundle ends Friday, October 30 with the original Resident Evil trilogy, Dino Crisis and Dino Crisis 2 from $10 up to $20. Hamble’s Fright or Fight runs into early November with Blair Witch, DEVOUR and Observer: System Redux, and the Cozy After Dark Showcase brings Paradise Killer and The Darkside Detective until November 2. Confirm prices and end dates on Humble before you buy.
Gary’s Take
Spend $3.99 on Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun, the best deal on the board, and $2.99 on XCOM 2 if you like your strategy brutal. Amnesia at $3.99 is the Halloween scare, and Undertale at $2.49 is the cheap story pick. Claim both free Epic games before Thursday.
